Newborn Hearing Screening Service - Warrington

General introduction

All newborn babies are offered a hearing screen. The test is safe, quick and painless.

The screen is usually done in the first few days or weeks of life. Finding a hearing loss early is very important because it can affect a child’s speech and language development.

How to access this service

For babies born at Warrington Hospital, the aim is to carry out the hearing screen on the ward before babies  go home (are discharged) from hospital.

If a baby is born at home, or discharged from Warrington Hospital soon after birth, the Newborn Hearing Team will contact parents within a few days to arrange a clinic appointment.

Clinic locations and times

Clinics are held at Warrington Hospital on:

  • Wednesday mornings – Main Outpatients Department
  • Friday mornings – Children and Young People's Outpatients Department

If a baby has not yet had a hearing screen and contact has not been made by the service, please tell your  midwife, health visitor or GP. Parents can also contact the Newborn Hearing Team directly.

About the team

The team consists of a local manager, service manager, newborn hearing screeners and an administrator.
