Wheelchair Service – Warrington


General introduction

The Warrington Wheelchair Service provides assessment of mobility needs, pressure care and postural support in a wheeled device.

The service provides the appropriate mobility equipment which allows patients to be mobile both in and outdoors.

Children's service

The wheelchair service will offer:

  • specialist assessment
  • advice and intervention based on clinical need
  • an individual management plan developed and agreed with the young person, parents and carers as appropriate
  • evaluation of outcomes and future plans

Families can expect:

  • expert assessment of their child’s mobility and postural clinical needs
  • to be fully involved in the assessment process, equipment planning and treatment plan
  • a plan with clear, measurable goals and expected outcomes
  • goals that link directly to mobility needs
  • wheelchair staff contributing to Education, Health and Care plans and reviews for children and young people with additional needs where required
  • signposting to other agencies and services where appropriate and with family consent
  • advice and support for wheelchair equipment where relevant and clinically appropriate
How to access this service

Initial referrals are made by professionals who gain the patient’s consent and complete the referral form.

Equipment is issued to patients who have long term mobility problems due to medical conditions and physical disability.

Equipment is issued to meet their basic mobility requirements and associated postural and pressure needs.

Patients can request a re-assessment of their mobility needs following initial referral to the service by calling us.

Wheelchair repairs and maintenance

Repairs for manual and powered wheelchairs will be responded to within three working days. Emergency repairs should be responded to within 24 working hours.

Repairs can be brought into the service if required from Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.00pm.

Delivery of wheelchairs

  • Standard delivery of wheelchairs should be within three working days.
  • Priority delivery of wheelchairs should be within 24 working hours.

Rosscare out of hours repair service

The out of hour’s repair service is available after 4pm weekdays, weekends and bank holidays. Rosscare can be contacted on 0151 653 6000.

For long-term wheelchair hire in Warrington, users can contact Warrington Disability Partnership or the British Red Cross.
