Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) – Widnes


General introduction

The Widnes Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) provides treatment for conditions that require urgent treatment but are not life-threatening including: 

  • slips, trips, sprains and minor falls
  • cuts, wounds, rashes and allergic reactions
  • minor burns, scalds, bites and stings
  • coughs, colds and sore throats
  • back pain, indigestion and stomach upset
  • ear, nose or eye injuries and infections
  • emergency contraception

 What we don't treat:

  • cardiac chest pain
  • severe difficulty in breathing
  • head injuries with loss of consciousness
  • head injuries in children under 1 year old
  • strokes
  • sudden loss of vision
  • repeat prescriptions
  • chronic or ongoing conditions

Please call 999 or visit your local Emergency Department (A&E) for all serious life-threatening illness and injuries.

Opening times

The Urgent Treatment Centre is open from 8am to 9pm, seven days a week, 365 days a year (including bank holidays) but please arrive before 8pm to allow time to be seen before closing.

How to access this service

Anyone can use this service. No appointment is needed.

Useful information

During the 30 minutes before closing, patients will be assessed but might be referred to their GP, Out-of-Hours GP or the Emergency Department (A&E) at either Whiston Hospital or Warrington Hospital.
