Stoma Care Service (Community) – Warrington


General introduction

A stoma is an opening on the surface of the abdomen that is surgically created to divert the flow of faeces or urine.

People of all ages can have a stoma.

The stoma care service provides care and support for patients before and after surgery. The team also offers advice to established stoma patients who are experiencing problems.

How to access this service

Anyone with a stoma, or awaiting stoma surgery, and who is registered with a Warrington GP can access this service.

Anyone can refer to the service by completing the stoma care referral form.

Once completed, the referral form can be posted or emailed to the team.

Patients may also self‑refer by calling the service.

About the team

The Stoma Care Service is a community based team of experienced specialist nurses.

The stoma care team holds a patient support group every two months at Birchwood Golf Club.

Times of the group will vary.
