Intravenous Therapy (IV) – Halton and Warrington


General introduction

Intravenous therapy (IV) is an admissions‑avoidance service that enables residents of Halton and Warrington to receive IV treatment in their own home.

Intravenous (IV) therapy refers to medication that is delivered directly into a vein.

The Intravenous Therapy Team can treat a range of conditions safely in the community, including:

  • cellulitis (soft tissue and skin infections)
  • diabetic foot ulcers
  • acute chest infections
  • acute urine infections
  • spinal infections
  • bone infections
How to access this service

Referrals can be made by your GP or by the Emergency Department (A&E) at Warrington Hospital.

The team also provides supported early discharge, and referrals can be made by any trust.

Patients are seen either in a clinic setting or in their own home, depending on clinical need.
