Nik was appointed as joint chief executive of Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in April 2025, having joined in November 2024 on an interim basis.
This followed his previous role at NHS England’s North West regional team, where he served as director of finance from April 2022 and, more recently, as NHS England’s national deputy chief finance officer.
Nik joined the NHS in 1997, having started his career as a financial management graduate trainee. He has since held senior leadership roles in prominent North West provider organisations, including Salford Royal, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, and St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals.
He lived in Warrington for 20 years, with his twins born at Warrington Hospital in 2010.
Nik is deeply committed to driving positive change in equality, diversity, and inclusion, while actively working to reduce health inequalities across the communities he serves.
He is dedicated to leading Bridgewater and Warrington and Halton Hospitals through a successful integration, to ensure the highest quality healthcare is delivered for the people of Warrington, Halton, and surrounding areas.

Dr Paul Fitzsimmons, medical director

In November 2024, Paul became joint medical director for Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals and Bridgewater Community Healthcare.
Paul is a consultant geriatrician and stroke physician by background, he studied medicine at Manchester University before undertaking postgraduate training in the north west.
Paul was a Healthcare Leadership Fellow at the Health Foundation and Ashridge University. He has extensive experience of delivering quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, digital clinical programmes and hospital service reconfigurations.

In December 2024, Dan was appointed as joint chief operating officer for Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals and Bridgewater Community Healthcare.
As chief operating officer his role is to oversee operational delivery and performance achievement.
Prior to his current role, Dan held a number of senior operational positions within the NHS. During that time he worked in operations management across acute hospital trusts in Greater Manchester and Cheshire.
Throughout his career, Dan has maintained a keen interest in furthering his academic knowledge; he holds a Master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from Manchester Business School, and a BSc in operational management from Lancaster University Management School.
As chief operating officer his role is to oversee operational delivery and performance achievement.

In July 2025, Ali was appointed as joint chief nurse and director of infection prevention and control (DIPC) for Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals and Bridgewater Community Healthcare.
Ali has more than 28 years’ NHS experience, qualifying in 1995 and working her way through the ranks from nurse to matron.
Prior to starting at WHH she was head of quality at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (previously St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust).
Ali is passionate about patient safety and delivering the best possible care for our patients. Her role is also to support the Board to understand how strategic decisions affect the quality and safety of patient care and the wider patient experience.

The unit was created to support the delivery of both trusts’ operational plans for the current financial year.
